This formulation of Hegel’s triadic logic is convenient, but it must be emphasized that he never used the terms thesis, antithesis and synthesis.
Hegel, like von Hardenberg, endorses constitutional monarchy.
understanding, although a necessary stage of thought, is less philosophical than Reason.
Understanding arguments is less cognitive / analytical than reasoning about them — not just do you have a block for it and / or can you claim it doesn’t link , but thinking further about what this argument is actually saying and what that means in context will allow you to further build a coherent, consistent, and more complete thoughtful response. Same with scientific inquiry
philosophy goes beyond both art and religion because it expresses the Absolute in pure speculative terms and is therefore able to synthesize all other forms of expression.
Critical Theory
Only a permanently self-critical approach to theory can avoid paralysis.
Jacques Derrida’s own project, although not Marxist, is also one of negative dialectics indebted to Hegel as the first “deconstructionist”.
Critical Theory in its “postmodern” form still uses Hegelian methods, but acknowledges a residue of reality which will always escape total theorization.
totalization that is recognized either as “bad” (totalitarianism) or entirely “collapsed” (the end of Grand Narratives).
