Nowhere in Scripture does God say that if we’re good, then he’ll be good to us. In fact, the Bible says the opposite. It says we’re not good, yet he is good to us. The more I studied Scripture, the more I learned that I was not as good as I thought I was. On my very best days, I was maybe 66 percent good.
