Poetry can be entertaining, it can be written with an astonishing clarity, I don’t know why it has to be the other way, but it is. Poetry is like sitting in a stuffy room with the windows down. And very little is occurring to let in any air, any light. It could be that the field has simply drawn the worst of the practitioners.
