Incidentally, this is one reason why we don’t use real estate as money: because no piece of land is exactly of the same worth as another. It must be a store of value. This is perhaps the most important characteristic of all. Money should have intrinsic worth which stays the same over time. If you think of our trusted ten-rupee note, cast your mind back to your childhood and ask yourself how much ‘stuff’ it could buy. Does it have the same purchasing power today?
