This fundamental distortion may be referred to as spiritual materialism.1 Our minds are tricky. Even in self-improvement quests we can be deceived. Spiritual quests easily become just another tool of the ego. “It is important to see that the main point of a spiritual practice is to step out of the bureaucracy of ego.”
