we should resist the perhaps-tempting idea that democracy demands proportional representation. Instead, we should strive for a two-party system, or at least for an approximation to it, for such a system encourages a continual process of self-criticism by the two parties.
One cannot denounce strongly enough the irresponsible and indeed criminal myth that we live in a social hell created by greed. This myth has become in our time the religion of the intellectuals. It is believed and spread by the media, and even by some teachers; and it has found uncounted victims. But it is untrue.
