I spent most of my time acquiring books, like a second-hand dealer who didn’t specialise in any particular variety. I worked for a daily wage and, once I had set enough aside, would use the money to buy books which, eventually, I would on sell for extra money to buy even more books with.

Lucy Fraser is a Lecturer in Japanese at The University of Queensland, Australia. She has a PhD in fairy tale transformations in Japanese and English, which was partly researched in Tokyo. Her other translations include a story by Hoshino Tomoyuki and literary criticism by Honda Masuko and Fujimoto Yukari.
