Your thoughts and feelings are not a good judge of your long-term progress. It’s not accurate to say, I’m doing better because I have less negative thoughts and feelings or I’m doing worse because I have more negative thoughts and feelings. Taking action is a much better gauge of progress than judging how you feel. This is because whenever you put yourself in challenging situations and go after something that’s important to you, you will usually experience some level of arousal and discomfort.
