Breaking interactions into steps doesn’t mean you won’t experience any troublesome thoughts and feelings. It means that you won’t be overwhelmed. You will still experience some arousal. You will just start to experience it in small, manageable doses. Ideally, you will be “in the zone”—challenging yourself, but not overwhelming yourself. This way, your body doesn’t tense up as much and you can learn from your interactions.
