An extraordinary account of the preparations made for the visit of the French Radical leader Edouard Herriot to the ‘October Revolution’ collective near Kiev in September 1933 is worth quoting at length:
Heriot was one of the loudest and comitted advocates of an alliance between France and the USSR. And so, he was also an active denier of famine and repression in the Soviet Union to French audiences.
