His lip curled and he grabbed me by the hair. "You stupid, worthless slut," he spat. "You fucking him now?"
but I had made it a point not to talk to any guys but him.
Ours needed to end. It should have ended the first time he hit me. The first time he pulled a knife on me. The first time he called me a horrible name. The first time he forced himself on me. I didn't love him. I had no illusions that he would change. I knew he wasn't just going to wake up one day and realize that he was wrong for treating me so badly. Every time I wanted to break up with him or tell someone what he was doing to me, I remembered what he said to me.
He leaned closer to me. "I know somebody named Jenn, and she's a fucking pig."
"If you ever tell anybody about this, I'll fucking kill you. If you ever try to cheat on me, I'll fucking kill you. If you ever try to leave me, I will fucking kill you, Layla. And then I'll kill your stupid parents. And then I'll kill myself. So keep your mouth shut."
They saw weakness in me. They knew they could take advantage of me.
Anyone looking at us would probably think we were drunk. I was intoxicated by her.
"Stop worrying what he thinks!" He snapped. I cringed away from him and instinctively shielded my face. I quickly brought my arms down when I realized he wasn't going to hit me. He stared at me, shocked. "Did you think I was going to hit you?"
"You thought I was going to hit you," he accused. "You don't know me at all."
I couldn't even be mad at anybody but myself. I completely overreacted. I swallowed my pride and forced myself to go back home.
"You thought you would ruin my family by getting raped by my brother?" Saying it out loud made me feel sick.
"You're the light of my life. You're the sun in my sky. The sight of you, even the thought of you, makes me smile. When you're not around, I feel empty. I didn't know what love was until I met you. From the first time I saw you, I felt something. I didn't know what it was at the time. Now I know. It's love."
"You are the most beautiful, kind and amazing woman I've ever seen. The thought of my life without you in it is unimaginable. I'm incomplete without you. I want to spend the rest of my life making sure you know that." He got down on one knee.
