Magnesium is both necessary for the manufacturing of insulin as well as the action of insulin. One role of blood cells is to transport magnesium throughout the body and for this, insulin is required. A recent study conducted by Dr. Jerry Nadler of the Gonda Diabetes Center at the City of Hope Medical Center in California found that 16 healthy persons, when placed on magnesium-deficient diets, had higher chances of having both heart disease and diabetes.
