Their train would have arrived at the train station with fragrant potted plants swinging in the wind. With details rivaling a Hollywood set, the mock station was staged to look like a train station hub, complete with a ticket window, a painted clock, and postings of other destinations and fake train schedules. Some arriving by train were greeted by friendly, smiling SS officers telling them that they were going to get a warm shower, clean clothes, and a hot meal before being taken to their barracks, where they would work for the German war effort.
