To abuse somebody who abuses you, you don’t need any awareness. But in order to remain quiet, you need enormous awareness.

We always think we must set up a role model. If you set up a role model, that’s a desperate effort to be something other than who you are. In this effort, this natural quality of being is completely lost in a human being.

Happiness has always been an internal phenomenon. The source of your happiness is inside of you. But right now, though it is inside, the switch is outside, in somebody else’s hands. The starter button is somewhere else. It is in the stock market, or in your wife’s hands, or your children’s hands, or the neighbor’s hands. You’ve given it to everybody, except to yourself.

Just like when you go shopping, you don’t buy the whole shop, do you? They’ve got a million things, but you just buy what you want. Similarly, in the warehouse of your mind, there are a million things going on. You should only pick what you want.

Children only come through you, you don’t create them. It is a privilege that they have happened through you. Enjoy the privilege; don’t think of it as an authority. Just enjoy the privilege that another life chose to come through you into this world.

The reason why somebody is happy or unhappy is not because of what is happening in their life. Either you know how to manage your inner climate or you don’t. That’s all.

When people expect the highest from you, knowingly or unknowingly you have to shift your gear to the highest point. It is a tremendous privilege. It is an opportunity to rise beyond your limitations.

Our lives become beautiful not because we are perfect. Our lives become beautiful because we put our hearts into what we do.

In the culture of Shiva, it’s considered obscene to ask the Creator to do something as if He doesn’t know what he should do. It’s considered totally obscene to make any request to God, because if He doesn’t know, what’s the point asking Him?

Enlightenment does not mean everybody becomes one way. Enlightenment means everybody becomes their own way. That is the beauty of it.

When you don’t know what to choose, just show total involvement in everything that you have. Then life will choose, and it is never wrong.
