When controversy over Jesus began to divide the synagogues, Christians established their own synagogues (Jas. 2:2). In these Christian synagogues many of the traditional forms of worship were continued, much as they had been previously observed in the Jewish synagogues. Certainly one of these traditions was the reading of the Old Testament Scriptures.
