The commandment means much more than “Don’t forget today is the Sabbath.” The commandment has in mind far more than a mere mental noting of the fact that it is the Sabbath Day when it rolls around each week. It has much more the meaning of, “Hold a service of memorial on the Sabbath.” This becomes very clear when one compares the version of the Ten Commandments found in Exodus with the version in Deuteronomy.
