Baez, a participant, recalled one evening, as everyone relaxed, “I heard him … saying that he wanted to just be a preacher, and he was sick of it all. And that the Lord called him to be a preacher, and not to do all this stuff, and he wanted to leave it and he was tired. And he had a couple whiskies in him,” and perhaps “he was really just saying it.”
