My foundational presupposition, a very general but very basic one, concerns how to read anything, ancient or modern, biblical or nonbiblical. That process demands awareness of matrix; that is, anything spoken or written must first be understood within its own time and place. Matrix is the background you cannot skip, the context you cannot avoid.
