Gianna didn’t take her eyes off me, like she knew I was going to make this all okay. I wouldn’t let any of those fuckers hurt her now that I was here. And by God, I’d make them pay, make them regret the day they’d laid eyes on Gianna, make them regret the day they were fucking born.
“Maybe you think you could live in the normal world, maybe you think you could date a normal guy, but you’d get bored, Gianna. Maybe you don’t want to admit it, but it excites you to be with someone like me. If a normal guy tells you he’d kill and torture to protect you, he’d be lying, exaggerating at best, but I’m making a promise I can keep.”
I wrapped my arms around her, burying my face in her hair. “I don’t think I can be happy here.” “Because you don’t want to marry a killer, because you can’t live with what Matteo does.” “No,” I said quietly. “Because I can see myself being okay with it.”
Protectiveness burned through my veins. Maybe she didn’t realize it but that she sought my closeness when she was scared was all the confirmation I needed for her feelings for me, even if she wasn’t aware of them yet.
“You can’t compare Aria to Gianna. They are like two different species. And I trust Aria absolutely. She caught a fucking bullet for me.” “Must be nice,” I muttered. “Gianna would probably applaud my shooter.”
You think I destroyed Matteo’s life, but I never got a choice in the matter. I didn’t want to marry him. You on the other hand chose to marry Aria. You chose to destroy her life with your darkness. So get down from your high horse, you bastard. You don’t deserve her and never will.”
I couldn’t remember the last time I’d felt so happy. I’d thought admitting my feelings to anyone would give that person more power over me, but instead I felt freer than I had in a long time.
