I talked earlier about PaaS solutions. My struggle with them has always been that they often get the abstraction level wrong, and that self-hosted solutions lag significantly behind hosted solutions like Heroku. Docker gets much more of this right, and the explosion of interest in this space means I suspect it will become a much more viable platform for all sorts of deployments over the next few years for all sorts of different use cases.
