Building a system like this required a significant amount of work. The effort is often front-loaded, but can be essential to manage the deployment complexity you have. I hope in the future you won’t have to do this yourself. Terraform is a very new tool from Hashicorp, which works in this space. I’d generally shy away from mentioning such a new tool in a book that is more about ideas than technology, but it is attempting to create an open source tool along these lines.
