Unlike Wonderland, which includes long sections copied almost word for word from Dodgson’s extempore storytelling, Looking-Glass was composed carefully over a long period of time. This dichotomy gives Alice a spontaneous, stream-of-consciousness feel, while Looking-Glass feels more staid and controlled, especially given its structure as a chess game.
