This is a important development of the second theme: the alive dead house and its special people. What is the prison, in a thematic sense? In hre, Goryanchikov makes it sound frightfully similar to life. Dostoyevsky himself does not agree with Goryanchikov and evidently sees "prison" as an anti-life.
