In 2008 the number of “things” connected to the Internet surpassed the number of people on the planet.
The human brain receives surrounding data through its sensory organs: sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste. Our brain also receives internal data signals from the body: pain, hunger, thirst, sleep, and so forth. The history of data can be summarized as man’s attempt to recreate the brain’s data-processing power.
Cellular connectivity has also proliferated, and today there are more cellular connections in the United States than there are people.
