Jeremy shrugs. “Something she read on Facebook, I guess. She’s worried about the kids showing up again.”
The wood jumps and there’s a terrible pain in her pointer finger. She yanks her hand free. Rachel screams. Blood is pouring over her knuckles, splattering onto the cement of the porch and onto the pumpkin. A mousetrap has snapped over her hand. Something glistens where the thick metal wire has pinned her finger. A razor blade. This pumpkin isn’t from Bradley.
“The Thirty-First Trick-or-Treater,” Walter says. “That’s what some of the returned kids are calling him.” “Why?” Sam asks. “Thirty kids went missing. They’re coming back one at a time. On Halloween, this guy’s coming back. So he’s the thirty-first.”
Oh sugar snaps. Maybe the OHG is coming back to kidnap more kids. Or he may have something bigger planned this year.
“What do we even do? I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Martin Donovan is dead. This is his ghost we’re dealing with. How do we stop a ghost?”
“It’s ridiculous, but I can’t deny what I’ve seen.” Bob shakes his head. “What can we do against that?” “Salt his corpse and burn it. That’s what they do in Supernatural.”
