Bad news for you, though.” Her voice drops to a dramatic whisper. “If we run across the monster, I’m going to trip you so he eats you first.”
I lean in close, mouth watering again at her delicious scent. “Little one, I am the monster they fled.”
If he’s not on their side, he’s on mine. If they think he’s a monster, he can be my monster.
“Are you . . . trying to tell me that you’re a vampire?” Man, the Halloween vibes on this ship are immaculate.

I like the idea of staying at her side.

It has a slow rotation and a continent close to the pole, which means that winters are long, and the nights are twenty hours out of the twenty-nine in the full day. There’s only a local government at the northernmost settlement, and I’d bet a handful of credits they can be bribed.”
“I don’t want you trapped, either. We’re in this together. The enemy of my enemy is my best friend.” She leans farther back in my arms, until she’s looking up at me. “My lover, in fact.”
I nod. If she’s there, I need no food but her. I don’t even need water. Dana’s all I need.
Because I’m absolutely going to find a way to get more supplies into the pod. She’s not going to suffer. Not under my watch.
“I’ve been home since the moment I met you.” She mouths, I love you, and I kiss her because those are the rules.
