“If you die on that ship I will come to the afterlife and haunt you for fucking ever, and then we can talk about possessive.”
“Merrick, there were so many things I never said. I love you so much. You brought me all the light. You brought me everything. Freedom. Hope. Trust. Love. Fight. I love you. Don’t die because of me. Please don’t die because of me. Live! Save this world. Please. Please. Please.”
“Listen to me.” His hands rested atop her shoulders, gently squeezing them when she made to look away. “I love you. I probably always will in some way. But this was meant to happen.”
“I won’t be gentle,” Raine warned. “That’s not who I am. That’s not what I can offer you. This isn’t love, little Rantzier. This is—”
“I think we’ll have some fun distracting each other.”
“Of course you do. My little fighter likes her man on his knees before her. Likes to see him serve her like the goddess she is.”
I care too. I care too fucking much, and it’s eating me alive. I might be centuries old, but I don’t fucking know how to deal with this! I don’t know what to do with you!
It wasn’t until Lessia finally straightened, and Merrick gave her a quick peck before helping her down and into her clothes again, that she realized her shirt was wet where he’d leaned his face.
“Their bond is a fierce and fragile one.”
Something warm and damp fell down Merrick’s cheeks, and the damned Fae dying in his mate’s lap laughed. A choked, coughing laugh. “Now—” Thissian coughed again. “Now I’ve seen everything.”
“I thought I lost you,” he eventually said, something like surprise sneaking into his low tone. “I thought… I…” His eyes closed for a second before they bore into hers again. “I can’t lose you. I… don’t want to.”
So instead, she let the magic brimming under her skin set her eyes on fire, and she’d never hated herself as much as she did in the moment she purred “Let me go” to her mate.
“I hate… I fucking hate how much I love you. And I hate you for doing that… but… I am so fucking proud of you. Do you hear that?”
“Tell him… we’ll find each other again when it’s time, and when we do… someone is waiting for Frelina as well.” “Who?” Lessia’s eyes widened and then rounded further as the world before her eyes distorted.
“And so a soulbinder shall help her rise to take her throne—her right as a veiled queen.”
