‘Friends, Romans, countrymen’ works the same way. In terms of content Antony would have been much better off starting with the fact that they’re all of the same nationality, then pointing out that they are Romans, and finally, in a gushy sort of way, pointing out that they are really friends too. But the longest bit of the tricolon must be saved for last, even if it’s the least important.
