“If you’re trying to make me feel bad about conning him out of two hundred bucks, you’ve got the wrong woman, babe. I don’t feel bad for a man who is clearly married and hitting on women at a bar. And I definitely don’t let random assholes like you make me feel bad about any decisions I make in my life.”
“You know, I think in an alternate universe, we could be friends. You with all that sass, absolutely no filter, and—” I cut him off before he can continue. “And you with your dry personality and clear obsession with me?”
“If you want me bad enough…a big, powerful man like you…you’ll find me.”
No one has ever been able to see past the intricate walls I’ve put up; no one has ever been able to see beyond what I allow them to see. Until Rowan.

I need to kiss Josie more than I need to breathe.
“My charm doesn’t work on you,” she whispers. “It never has.” “I didn’t realize you were so blind,” I reply just as softly.
He doesn’t think he can get any women. He thinks he can get me.
“I’m starting to wonder if maybe there’s more to life than working.” I’m starting to believe that more to life is holding my hand and smiling up at me right now.
“I want everyone to know you’re mine, Josie. That’s what you are, conversation or not. You’re mine.
“That’s because I’m completely obsessed with you, and even though I couldn’t admit it to even myself until recently, I’ve been obsessed with you for some time. If I had paid attention for just a single moment, I would have realized the world was throwing me a million chances to find my person finally.”
Looking around, I take note that no eyes are on us, and I step back, pulling her into my arms and walking with her. She doesn’t hesitate, wrapping her arms around my neck and melting into my body, letting me sway her and following my lead. My whole world is in my arms.
