Secularists believe that man establishes his own moral values apart from the influence of anyone (including God), and he self-determines his destiny — he is “the master of his own fate.”
“Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income” (Ecclesiastes 5:10). The more we get, the more we want. Anxiety is the natural by-product of chasing the beautiful, wrinkle-free life.
The rat race boils down to the conflict between who we are created to be and who we are tempted to be. Could we define the rat race any more succinctly?
The first step to knowing God’s plan for our lives is the commitment to see ourselves as we really are.
To protect our self-image, we kid, trick, and fool ourselves into believing the visible you is somehow real. To see ourselves as we really are, we must acknowledge our inability to do so without God’s help.
