Osborn emphasized that “Germany’s rapidity of change with respect to eugenics was possible only under a dictator” (quoted in Spiro 2009, 368). Although many would later deny knowledge of the Nazi atrocities, Germany was quite proud of its treatment of Jews and others, and the Nazi fascist program was widely reported in the American media. American eugenicists kept tabs on the Nazi program (Black 2003, 299).
