Ford disliked the British, and as World War II approached, he refused to provide aircraft engines to Britain. He continued to sell engines and vehicles to the Nazis, however, until 1941. He opposed the U.S. entry into the war. Hitler boasted of Ford’s support and had a large photograph of Ford on his office wall (Brace 2005). He awarded Ford by presenting him with the Grand Service Cross of the Supreme Order of the German Eagle on Ford’s seventy-fifth birthday, July 30, 1938. The Italian fascist dictator Mussolini was the only other non-German to receive this medal.
