According to Reed, one of the items on the Line X shopping list was software for controlling the pumps, valves, and turbines on the Trans-Siberian Pipeline, which was being built to carry natural gas from the Urengoi gas fields in Siberia to countries in Europe. When the CIA learned the Soviets were trying to obtain the software from a company in Canada, the agency, in cooperation with the firm, embedded a logic bomb in the code.
