His head dropped forward, and I could feel him shaking now. “Are you laughing at me?” I asked. “I’ve just never had a girl say that as she got on top of me before.”
“Yes,” he said over the bike. “You are on top of me. An arm around my waist or on the tank. You can hold on to me unless we stop or shift, then use the tank to hold yourself up. Don’t squeeze the fucking life out of me or I might leave you to walk. If you have a problem, tap me and I’ll stop. Don’t make me stop because you’re scared. Keep it to yourself. “No? What were your ideas? Ritualistic killing? Violently torturing a man to death? Starting a cult?” “Well, those weren’t my first ideas, but I love where your mind is. A cult could be fun. Would you like to be the leader? We can start with ritualistic killings immediately. Should I assume the attitude means you’re feeling better?”
“Fine. I’ll go with you, so one, you don’t stalk me more, and two, I don’t wake up tomorrow with a permanent tattoo of your name on me.” He gave a satisfied groan, dropping to kiss me. “I change my mind. Please go on your date. Stalking you, killing him, tattooing my name on you. It sounds like my dream date.”
Do you know what a rook does in chess?” She shook her head, and I wrapped my arms around her. “He protects the queen. He can’t take her down, he can’t win against her, he only protects her. If you want to be queen of it all, I will cut down anyone in your way. I won’t stop you or lock you up, and yes, I would happily kill anyone who bothers you.”
Elliot looked at me and then my dad, his face scrunching before he gave a small laugh. “Why would you need to help with the business?” Elliot asked. “I’ll be taking over most things with the business, and I don’t see what you being there would help. There’s no need to confuse people on who is in charge.”
