Latin hid nothing from Cabeswater; they only meant to spare Gansey.
Ronan was trying his best to meaningfully catch Gansey’s eye, but Gansey wouldn’t let him.
It was Tad Carruthers, whose worst fault was that Adam didn’t like him and Tad couldn’t tell.
historians were such Guesser McGuessers,
“Out of his family home?” Ronan asked, sounding both shitty and earnest.
Ah, Adam thought with grim and sudden certainty. Here it is. So one of us is on it.
“GO BUY US PIZZA. WITH EXTRA CHEESE, RICHIE RICH.”
Adam was beginning to realize that he hadn’t known Ronan at all. Or rather, he had known part of him and assumed it was all of him.
His son was before him, and he did not know him. I am unknowable.
Adam wasn't raised being known and therefore hasn't experienced love and so he doesn't understand it properly or see himself as deserving of it. He makes himself unknowable because he doesn't think that he deserves to be seen, understood or loved. He has people who want to know and love him but he has to let them.
'In a low, unfamiliar voice, he said, [...] “The bruises he'd come to school with. Who has he ever had to love him? Ever?”' [TDT]
'Now he could see that it wasn’t charity Gansey was offering. It was just truth.'
