Then I seize the front of Mac’s shirt in a desperate surge of strength and clarity. “Don’t tell him.” “What?” I grip harder, scraping his skin with ragged nails. “You can’t. I can’t go through that again.” “We’ll talk about this later.”
“It’s not charity. You’re my son’s mate. That makes you family.”
shove the tray away from me. “I’m not your son’s anything, anymore. Please leave.”
“Might help if you showed up,” I mutter under my breath. He catches it, of course. “I’ve been to a lot of mating ceremonies over the last three years. Including the ones in Crestwood. You haven’t, I’ve noticed.”
I don’t know why I’m running so fast. He won’t chase after me. He never does.

Why won’t he bite me? Does he regret me biting him? He asked me to, right? Doesn’t want you, doesn’t want you, doesn’t want you. Temporary.
The universe has made it abundantly clear that Connor's not meant to be mine.
