MAY 22 Day 143 The Life of Death “So death is at work in us, but life in you. Since we have the same spirit of faith as he had who wrote, ‘I believed, and so I spoke,’ we too believe, and so we speak.” II Corinthians 4:12-13 Death is at work in every person. It is the natural progression of life. Paul realized this and elected to participate willingly by purposely putting himself to death by spending his life on others. Because Paul died, the Corinthians lived. Quoting King David out of the Psalms, he says that sharing the biblical faith of those who went before him, he believed, spoke, and then knew. You cannot know that you have eternal life until you die; you must walk by faith. Faith or belief must come first. If you truly believe, you will speak the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ. This will produce life in others and death in you, for the world is hostile to the messenger of Christ. The afflictions and dangers to which Paul was exposed were adapted to discourage and drive him to despair, but the opposite was true, for he believed. He was willing to endure, realizing that not until he died would he know. “While we look not at the things which are seen, but unseen. For the things which are seen are temporal; the things which are not seen are eternal.”1 You cannot know until after you believe and speak; that is the order: believe, speak, know. You cannot alter it. You can spend your life seeking to save it while you live for self, or you can recognize that because death...
