“She will bring about the downfall of the realm. Destiny beckons and sacrifice demands. Will you not sacrifice one to save us all?” “The only sacrifices that will be made will be for her,” Theon retorted.
“It does not matter. In the end, you are still hers, and she is still yours.” “No!” Theon snarled, snatching her wrist in his hand. “No. I do not want her.”
“If I am forever someone else’s, what does that make you, little storm?” “The same thing I’ve always been. Nothing.”
“You know where I’m not safe?” she said, ignoring his attempt at trying to lighten the mood. “Out there. Without you. Because out there, Axel? Out there I am forced into beds. Out there I do not have someone to make sure that I am getting enough food, or that I have clean clothing. I do not have someone who will help me in the shower and not expect me on my knees afterwards.”
“If it’s something I want? For fuck’s sake, Kat, I’ve wanted since the moment I laid eyes on you. Before that even. If Theon feels a fraction of this draw to Tessa, I understand the obsession, because I am obsessed with you. It’s why even though I know this is a terrible idea, I’m going to let you have it. I don’t even know what this is, but I know I could never deny you a godsdamn thing.” She kissed him then, her lips soft against his, and he slid a hand up her spine into her hair, holding her in place.
“I will be the downfall of the Legacy in this realm. I will be the downfall of the imbalance that has plagued this world. But above all, I will be the downfall of your entire bloodline, and I will let you witness it all before I take your life from you.”
“You will forever be mine, Tessa. Whether in this life or in the After.”
“I crave destruction at your hands, clever tempest. If that’s what it takes to keep you, then so be it.”
“And the path to salvation?” she countered harshly. He shifted again, settling back and seeming to get comfortable once more. “The path to salvation has always been death.”
