“It will not matter if you have a union Mark on your skin and a ring on your finger. It will not matter if I have the same with someone else. If I am forced into a new bond, it will not erase this one. Haven’t you figured it out yet?”
“You’ll still be mine, Tessa.”
“I hate you too much to ever be yours,” she whispered bitterly.
“I said I wanted everything you have to give. That includes your hate. It’s all mine.”
“Did you ever think that maybe I hate this just as much?”
“I did not say you were not worth my time. I said training is pointless if you’re not even going to try.” She nodded once, but he held firm when she tried to look away. “I’m saying you need to decide you’re worth it. Even on the hard days. Even on the days you feel like giving up. Even on the days where it feels pointless. You need to decide you are worth it.”
“You feel…a lot of things very quickly all the time,”
“I think you will learn soon enough that wrestling with fate leaves scars. Only you can decide if they’re worth it.”
“You will forever be mine, Tessa. Whether in this life or in the After.”
“Don’t you know?” he asked, leaning down and whispering in her ear. “Dragons eat the monsters.”
“Beautiful, there’s no saying goodbye between you and me. You will forever be mine.”
