Because she’d stopped playing the games of the Legacy and had entered an arena with gods, and if she failed, her only purpose was death.
“You cannot fault me for believing something to be true when that was all I’d been taught. All I have seen my entire life,” Theon argued. “You cannot recognize injustice?” she countered.
That was his dragon growling ‘mine’ as his scent covered her.
He’s the one who will protect you from yourself. I’m going to be the one who lets you decide whether you’re going to crawl, run, or fly, and I won’t catch you unless you ask me to.”
You’re letting your fears become your limits, Tessa. Be who you were meant to be.” “Stop saying that,” she hissed, making her way to him. “I don’t want to be whoever I was meant to be. I want the freedom to be whoever I want to be.”
“But wishes and hope are for the innocent and the heroes, not the monsters and the villains, so I no longer bother with either.”
His. She was his and no one else’s. If anyone tried to stop him, he’d simply end them.
We need you to come back. Me and our babe. Her hand slid to her stomach, resting atop it as her eyes fell closed again.
“I would have rather been in constant danger with people who I knew cared about me than abandoned in a realm where I was alone and unwanted.
“Even the monsters and the villains need others. We’re not meant to do life alone.”
No one would fight for them like he would. Sacrifice for them. Bleed for them. Kill for them. Because they were his to have. His to protect. His to love. He didn’t need a fucking bond to choose them.
This was no different from when Theon wouldn’t leave her be, but at least Theon came with orgasms.
Dex was gone, thank… Not the gods, because fuck them.
Because I would rather live a life without you, knowing you are healthy and whole, than live a life where I endanger you just by existing.” “I am not whole without you!” she cried,
Then on your knees, clever tempest, Theon answered. But Tessa? Yes? And her voice was breathy even down the bond. Only him. If anyone else touches what is mine, death will be a mercy.
This was thanking him for always accepting her as she was while simultaneously encouraging her to never settle.
Because this wasn’t him taking what he wanted. This was her giving it freely. “Gods, you can be such a good girl when you’re not being a brat,” he rasped out on ragged breaths,
He kissed her again. “I’m not supposed to want you like this,” he murmured. “But I don’t think I care anymore.”
Kissing Luka was willingly giving him a piece of her. Kissing Theon was willingly letting him possess her, and that was exactly what he did.
“It’s more than a bond,” she interrupted, her frustration climbing as she said those words, knowing they would damn her. Her next words were a whisper. “It’s always been more than a bond.”
But when she kissed him, all he cared about was being worthy of her. If she accepted him, none of the rest of it mattered.
“Perhaps you should remember that dreams born in the dark become nightmares.”
In the end, nothing was inevitable. The only certainty among the stars was that fate was a culmination of choices made over days, months, and years.
“Tessalyn Ausra, I would sacrifice all the realms and all the stars for you. You are perfectly wild. Perfectly untamed. You were not made to be caged, nor were you made to be a sacrifice for a realm that does not deserve such a gift. You were made to live in the light. Go live, little storm.”
And I hope you know that your past does not define you. There are consequences for actions, yes, but you get to decide how to move forward from here.
