“This is what will make you a monster, Tessa.” “You think I don’t know that?” Another breath of disbelief came from him as he said, “You claim to hate the dark, yet the light is leaving you blind.”
I’m not yours. The Mark on your hand says you are. If that’s your argument, then you belong to me, Theon, she retorted. I never claimed otherwise, little storm.
“You wouldn’t know what to do with me if I crawled to you, Luka,” she purred, sauntering towards him. “Baby girl, I know exactly what I’d do with you,”
“But wishes and hope are for the innocent and the heroes, not the monsters and the villains, so I no longer bother with either.”
That was what he’d sacrifice anything for. Because she was his. His to have. His to protect. His to love.
That’s why I left, Katya. Because I would rather live a life without you, knowing you are healthy and whole, than live a life where I endanger you just by existing.” “I am not whole without you!” she cried,
Tell me how to love you, kitten, because I’ll pluck stars from the sky and walk through your flames. And when I’ve turned, and this bond we never got to have has faded, I’ll still choose you. I’ll still love you, and it will mean even more because we’re choosing it. We’re not being drawn to each other by some bond gifted by the Fates.”
“What do you want from me?” she rasped, because at this point, she honestly didn’t know. Not anymore. “Whatever you’ll give me, Tessa.” “Nothing,” she spat. “I only want to take. Just like this realm, the worlds, the stars, only want to take from me.” “Perfect, little storm, because I’ll give you anything you want.”
“You are my source of everything I hate about this realm, but you are also my source of the things I crave. You are the source of what broke me, but you are also the source of what saved me. You are the source of my fury, but you are also the source of every dark desire. You are the source of what I have become, but you are also a source of complete acceptance of who that person is. You are the source of my own self-discovery, and how twisted is that, Theon?”
“It’s more than a bond,” she interrupted, her frustration climbing as she said those words, knowing they would damn her. Her next words were a whisper. “It’s always been more than a bond.”
“I don’t understand it,” she said, the words raw and agonized. “I don’t understand any of it.” “I know, Tessa,” he murmured. “I’m trying to find the answers for you.” “You mean for you,” she panted when he rocked into her again. “No, little storm. I mean exactly what I said. For you.”
“Your tears are red,” Kat whispered. “And yours are heartbreaking,” he replied,
“He is my family,” he agreed. “But you? You are my light.”
“You like the sound of that, don’t you, temptress?” he crooned, sliding his palms up the inside of her thighs. She gasped as he climbed higher. “Both of us on our knees before you, giving you pleasure. Serving you. Letting you take whatever you want.”
“Someone they fear as much as me,” Theon said, and her gaze snapped back to his. Maybe… Maybe the villain had fallen in love with the monster in the end.
“If he does not go get help, we will not survive this, and—” He was cut off by the roar that ripped through the air, yet Tessa’s sob of relief was still somehow louder. Everything stilled, all eyes going to the night sky, where not one, but two, dragons soared. One let loose another roar of rage, black flames blotting out the emerging stars, and then the Augury scattered.
“Tessalyn Ausra, I would sacrifice all the realms and all the stars for you. You are perfectly wild. Perfectly untamed. You were not made to be caged, nor were you made to be a sacrifice for a realm that does not deserve such a gift. You were made to live in the light. Go live, little storm.”
“Be happy,” he repeated. “But more than that, be free, Tessa.”
With one last look at the ones he loved most in this world, Theon turned and walked out of the chamber, doing the one thing he’d sworn he would never do. He let her go.
He was a god, but she was a Fury.
Because he was a god, but she was a Fury. And her daughter? She was Chaos.
