When the young college woman I described at the beginning of this chapter told me she had been raped and had chosen abortion, I engaged her in a form of non-confrontational dialogue. “Wow, that’s awful,” I said. “I’m so sorry that happened to you. I’m guessing the guy who did it wasn’t caught, either.” She said he wasn’t. I continued, “Honestly, I think that is one of the things that makes rape such an awful crime.
