When you’re poor, the days have a way of blending together. They say time flies when you’re having fun. But when your task for the next twenty-four hours, over and over on a hellish repeat, is merely to survive, time becomes the enemy.
Somehow, Brooklyn Ellis has managed to slip her way under my skin and is now the object of my full and undivided attention. God help her.
I turn and walk out of the studio. I have to. If I don’t, I’ll gather her back into my arms, and neither of us will ever let go.
Do it, I scream inside. Close the distance. Kiss me until it’s all I know. Just fucking do it. Please.
“Did you hear anything I just said?” “I lost the plot when you walked into the room.”
Brooklyn grins at me, and goddammit, my heart twists and flexes.
“I’ve made all of your life my business. It’s only fair that you’re free to know all about mine.”
“Please,” Brooklyn says, her eyes locked with mine. “Enough, please.” “For you?” I hiss quietly. “Yes. For now, yes.”
Because that means that the man I’m fucking crazy about, and can’t stop touching or thinking about, had this before with someone else. Much more than “this”, actually. And God, does that sting.
I bite my lip. It’s wild that this man would legit kill for me. …And actually pretty hot, in a kinda fucked-up way.
It’s not even that “I don’t mind if she stays.” It’s far more than that. It’s that I don’t want her to leave. Ever.
