If the subject’s name is Kim, for example, he or she would say, “My name is Kim.” 6 Perform the muscle test by smoothly and steadily increasing the pressure downward on the subjects’ arm, going from no pressure to a fairly firm pressure within about 3 seconds. 7 The shoulder joint should stay ‘locked’ against your firm downward pressure, and should not give way. A person’s arm can rapidly become tired if you overdo the amount of force you use. Remember that muscle testing does not require brute force. If the statement they just made is true, you should feel that the arm is “locked” against your downward pressure. If the statement is false, you should feel their arm begin to give way under your smoothly increasing pressure.
