If It Makes You Happy

So, I’m doing what I always do—whatever needs to be done.

“Don’t do something you think you’ll regret,” I whisper. He shakes his head without hesitation. “I wouldn’t regret this.”

“He waits by the back door for her every day,” Michelle says. “Like how you wait on the front porch for me?” I ask.

“I want you to be happy and—” His next words almost come out in a whisper. “Have you ever thought I might be happy with you?”
