Objects, qualities, or relationships become overvalued by virtue of the mechanism of attachment and the ensuing projection of value. The more specialness projected onto the relationship with the desired object or person, the greater the potential for grief and loss. Fear of loss contributes to dependent attachments as well as materiality or social attributes, such as money and fame.
