Because we have experienced a story of how One came to us and received us as strangers and forgave us as friends, we expect to receive strangers and to be offered forgiveness elsewhere. Our story enables us to have community on the basis of something more substantial than “melting pot” blandness, to have community rather than eternal hostility among subgroups because we are so different.
