Valroy looked down at Abigail, deeply annoyed. “You are meddling again, wife.” “How so?” Abigail smiled at him, a picture of innocence. “Have you not told her? Oh dear. Forgive me, that was unintended.” Yeah. Bullshit. And Valroy clearly believed the same. He sighed and shook his head. “Wife. May I entreat you to leave us be? Kindly?” Abigail laughed. “Oh, husband.” She turned his head toward her and went up on her tiptoes to kiss him. “I cannot let you have all the fun. You know that. But yes.”

I love them

Valroy laughed again, showing off his sharp fangs. “Clever, exile. A shame he is my enemy; we could have caused such rage and ruin together. That is entirely true, Ava. If you used all three shards, you would become the vessel for the Web.” He was grinning from ear to ear as if it really were the funniest thing he’d ever heard.

I would read it

She was becoming a monster. She should be pitching a fit. Breaking everything in sight. Using Book to burn the place down. But here she was…letting herself get dressed up to go to a party. Playing the game. Why? Path of least resistance? Was that it? Losing her mind and going on a bender seemed like it wouldn’t do any good moving her forward. But she felt like she should be more upset. More afraid. More something. Oh, she was terrified. But she wasn’t curled up in a corner, screaming. Maybe it was because everything was so bizarre, it had transcended a new level of nonsense. She was already drowning in shit, what was a little more? Or maybe it was the influence of the Web.

She is in her element

“Beautiful wife, would you send that irritating botfly of yours to discern precisely where and perhaps even when the Weaver has sent him?” Valroy was laughing through his words. “I believe he might be the only thing capable of the task.” Abigail was watching Ava with an amused but wary expression. Clearly, she was pleased with what Ava had done—but perhaps more concerned than most that she’d been able to do it at all. “I will see if I can procure Goodfellow’s attention. Hopefully, it is not too late.”
