Christians in America have become experts at conviction—and failures at action.
This is the mistake a lot of couples make. They spend a lot of time looking at themselves and each other but very little time staring at God.
Can you imagine if the divorce rate among Christians was next to nothing? What an incredible way to cry out to the world that we are different!
Marriage is one of the most humbling, sanctifying journeys you will ever be a part of. It forces us to wrestle with our selfishness and pride. But it also gives us a platform to display love and commitment.
If the Spirit of God is really inside of us, then His power will be obvious in our marriages.
God calls us to display the love and humility of Christ through our marriages.
My point in all of this is to insist that there’s more at stake in your marriage than just your marriage. The beauty of the gospel is at stake.
Submission is beautiful when we realize we are imitating Christ. Though He rightfully possessed all glory, He willingly laid it aside (Phil. 2). If anyone deserved to be treated a certain way, it was Him. And yet He gladly placed Himself in submission to the Father. Amazing! Take your eyes off of the world long enough to let the truths of Scripture take root in your heart.
