Kindle Notes & Highlights
To all the readers who complain that my heroes are always irredeemable jerks… I’m afraid I have terrible news.
“The most beautiful woman on the continent. No close seconds. They call her a vision, a masterpiece, a myth. From now on, she only has one name—mine,”
“Note to self.”
“She’s not very good with taking orders.”
She’s not a Tamagotchi, Tiernan.
My sister replied with a middle finger emoji, forever the picture of eloquence and grace.
She rubbed her tiny thumb over it, and that simple move threatened to change my entire brain chemistry. I yanked my hand back and stood up.
And the one thing I saved just might end up killing me.
“Get rid of your whore.”
Sharp. Intelligent. Cunning. Talented. Slightly unhinged, which—let’s admit it—only added to her allure.
“Game. Set. Match.”
“I’m saying you’re not the only one who’s growing up here.”
And for the first time in my life, I felt the kind of pain I didn’t like.
“You were my first dream, I think.”
“You were wide awake.” “Technically, yes. But when I stopped and tipped my head up, I asked the moon for a reason to live. We have a history of bargaining, me and him.” He paused. “I think it gave me you.”
She reached up and kissed my eye patch, and I hoped what I was feeling was a fatal heart attack and not fucking flutters.
“I think if anyone could melt the iceberg also known as Tiernan Callaghan’s heart, it’s you, sis.”
“You eejit bastard. You’re so fucking screwed.”
“Your Achilles’ heel. Everyone has one.”
“I love you.”
“He was,” I confirmed, letting her bask in his misery. “And he lost his ever-loving shit.”
“I threatened one of your soldiers at gunpoint.”
I stared at her like she asked me to carve Wyoming out of the map and drag it into the Black Sea.
“My mother already panic-vomited twice, and Imma bursts into tears every time I have a contraction. The woman is a nurse. They’ve both completely lost it.”
In the end, I did the right thing by keeping Enzo in New York. He saved my Lila.
And that if he hadn’t finished him… I’d have done it myself.
